Teachers in Crosby-Ironton will return to the classroom Thursday morning, ending an eight-week strike. An agreement was reached Wednesday between the Crosby-Ironton local of Education Minnesota and the school district.
"We are thrilled that we are returning to our classrooms and will be with our students, which is the most important part of today's agreement," said Stan Nagorski, president of Education Minnesota Crosby-Ironton. "This agreement will go a long way to helping us retain the best teachers in this area."
Negotiations centered on salary and health insurance issues, which were the primary points of contention throughout this dispute. "The school district was able to meet its objectives of predictability and cost containment, and the union was able to preserve important benefits for our members," Nagorski added.
Nagorski also noted that the agreement was reached because both parties felt it was time to put the dispute behind them and go back to the business of educating children.
Education Minnesota Crosby-Ironton has 87 members. The school district serves roughly 1,300 students. "Our best moment in weeks will come tomorrow morning, when the school bell rings and our members are in the classroom," said Nagorski.
